NEWS RELEASE
SPRING COMDEX, MAY 20, 1991
ARTISOFT'S LANTASTIC VOICE ADAPTER UPDATED AND RENAMED TO
ARTISOFT SOUNDING BOARD ADAPTER
Adds SoundPUP Utility, Windows Compatibility, and More
TUCSON, Ariz. -- May 20, 1991)--Artisoft announced today its
LANtastic Voice Adapter has been renamed to the Artisoft
"Sounding Board. "We feel that the Sounding board name fits
better because it doesn't classify it solely as a network
product and doesn't limit its application to voice," said
Jack Schoof, Artisoft's President and CEO.
An update to the Sounding Board software will begin shipping
in June (hardware unchanged). It will include a new pop up
recorder utility called SoundPUP and be fully compatible with
Microsoft Windows 3.0.
Anyone purchasing the Artisoft Sounding Board adapter between
now and the date on which the update ships will receive a
free update. Current registered users can receive the
update for $15.
Artisoft's Sounding Board adapter includes a telephone-style
handset for quiet, private voice recording and playback. The
new SoundPUP utility allows users to record their thoughts or
messages as a DOS file from within an application. It will
operate as a TSR under DOS and as a Windows 3.0 application
in real, standard, and enhanced modes of operation.
The Sounding Board adapter will also include some of the
basics of Artisoft's Voice Programmer's Interface, allowing
developers to quickly and easily add voice to their own a
applications. The complete set of developers tools is
available separately in Artisoft's Voice Programmer Interface
for $75.
The Artisoft Sounding Board can be used with Artisoft's
LANtastic local area network to provide voice mail or used
independently with applications developed by programmers with
Artisoft's Voice Programmer's Interface.
Artisoft's Sounding Board adapter is a low-cost, IBM
compatible expansion adapter that converts between
audio/voice signals and a digital data stream. When used in
conjunction with supporting software, it provides the
capability to digitize spoken messages, preserving them in
nearly their original fidelity. The Sounding Board adapter
is $99 for ISA bus and $199 for Micro Channel.
